Plain Language Summary

# REAL Meat Act of 2025 Summary **What the Bill Would Do** The REAL Meat Act would ban the use of federal money to support the development or production of cell-cultured meat—meat grown from animal cells in laboratories rather than raised from live animals. This includes any direct or indirect federal funding for researching, advancing, or enhancing this technology. The bill makes one exception: NASA can still use federal funds for cell-cultured meat projects designed for use in space. **Who It Affects** The bill would primarily impact researchers, companies, and institutions that receive federal funding to develop lab-grown meat technology.

This includes universities, private companies, and government research agencies. The restriction could slow or halt federally-funded research into this emerging food technology in the United States, though it wouldn't prevent private companies from funding such work themselves. **Current Status** The bill was introduced in the 119th Congress by Representative Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) and is currently in committee, meaning it has not yet advanced to a full vote in the House. No action has been taken on the measure at this time.
