Military Helicopter Training Safety Act of 2025
Military Helicopter Training Safety Act of 2025
Plain Language Summary
# Military Helicopter Training Safety Act of 2025 – Plain Language Summary **What the Bill Would Do** This bill would require the Department of Defense to study whether military helicopters should be equipped with two types of safety technology. The first is a traffic alert and collision avoidance system (TCAS), which warns pilots when other aircraft are nearby and suggests evasive maneuvers. The second is ADS-B IN technology, which gives pilots real-time information about weather conditions and the location of nearby aircraft.
Rather than mandating installation, the bill simply asks the Pentagon to assess whether these systems are practical and feasible to add to military helicopters. **Who It Affects** This bill would impact the Department of Defense and military pilots who operate helicopters for training and operational purposes. The bill's name references training safety, suggesting the focus is on helicopters used for pilot training, though the language covers all military rotary-wing aircraft. **Current Status** The bill (HR 1898) is currently in committee and has not yet been voted on by the full House of Representatives. It was introduced in the 119th Congress by Representative Tom Barrett, a Republican from Michigan.
