Plain Language Summary

# Don't Cut FAA Workers Act of 2025 – Plain Language Summary **What the Bill Does:** This bill would prevent the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) from laying off large numbers of workers for one year following a major plane crash that results in fatalities. If the FAA wants to proceed with such layoffs after a fatal aviation accident, it would have to notify Congress and get approval through a joint resolution within 60 days. A "mass layoff" is defined as eliminating 10 or more FAA employees at a single location or 250 or more employees overall within a 90-day period. **Who It Affects:** The bill directly protects FAA employees from sudden job losses during the year following fatal aviation accidents.

It also gives Congress a say in FAA staffing decisions during these sensitive periods. Indirectly, it could affect aviation safety if staffing decisions are delayed or constrained during accidents investigations. **Current Status:** The bill was introduced by Representative Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) and is currently in committee, meaning it has not yet been debated or voted on by the full House of Representatives.
