Plain Language Summary

# American CANS Act Summary **What the bill would do:** The American CANS Act would require canned food products to clearly display their country of origin on the front label or top of the can. Currently, country-of-origin information for imported goods exists but isn't required to be prominently displayed on canned foods. This bill aims to make that information more visible and accessible to consumers at the point of purchase. **Who it affects:** This legislation primarily impacts food manufacturers and importers who sell canned agricultural products in the U.S., as well as American consumers shopping for canned goods.

It could affect both domestic producers (who would need to comply with labeling requirements) and foreign exporters shipping canned products to the United States. **Current status:** The bill was introduced in the 119th Congress by Representative Josh Harder (D-CA) and is currently in committee, meaning it has not yet been voted on by the full House of Representatives. It remains in the early stages of the legislative process.
