Plain Language Summary

# Wildfire Emergency Act of 2025 - Plain Language Summary **What the Bill Would Do** The Wildfire Emergency Act of 2025 aims to address wildfire threats through three main approaches: forest restoration, energy resilience, and wildfire prevention. It would direct the Forest Service to launch a 10-year pilot program funding up to 20 conservation projects on National Forests, using a financing model where investors provide upfront money that gets repaid over time by project beneficiaries. The bill also requires the Department of Energy to establish programs helping critical facilities like hospitals maintain power during extreme weather events, and it expands existing weatherization assistance to include fire-resistant building materials. **Who It Affects** This legislation primarily affects communities in wildfire-prone regions, particularly in Western states like California; hospitals and other critical facilities; forest management agencies; and potentially private investors involved in conservation financing.

Property owners may benefit from expanded weatherization assistance programs that help make structures more fire-resistant. **Current Status** The bill (S. 350) was introduced by Senator Alex Padilla (D-California) in the 119th Congress and is currently in committee, meaning it has not yet been debated or voted on by the full Senate. The bill addresses multiple policy areas including environmental protection, energy efficiency, disaster relief, and economic development.
